Creative Drama 1

In our creative movement class, we encourage our youngest students to explore the environment through guided play and the use of the imagination. Children learn to value self-expression through rhythm, games to develop coordination, sequencing exercises, pantomime, visual art, storybooks, songs, and dances. Class will end with a final demonstration. Great add-on to Sing, Sing, Sing class.
Creative Drama 2

This class begins the exciting journey of the budding actor. Children experience developmentally appropriate theatre games and dramatizations of stories that build skills, spark imagination, nurture creativity, and inspire empathy. The class also focuses on enhancing students’ communication skills and self-confidence. Young people are encouraged to repeat Creative Drama workshops within their age range, as each class increases understanding while using new material. Class will end with a final demonstration. This is a great add on to Broadway Kids Junior for a full theatrical immersion.

This class enhances theatre skills through carefully crafted exercises and dramatizing stories and short plays. Students focus on character development using improvisation and script work to develop their craft. Actors are encouraged to repeat their participation in Creative Drama workshops within their age range as each class deepens understanding while introducing new material. Class will end with a final demonstration. This is a great add on to Broadway Kids for a full theatrical immersion!

Teen Smartphone Filmmaking

Learn the fundamentals of visual storytelling and start applying it today. In this workshop, you will learn how to make a short film relying only on a smartphone and your own imagination. No filmmaking experience is required. Sophisticated equipment, special effects, advanced editing software, and big budgets are not necessary to tell a great story. With nothing more than a cell phone and your own creativity, you can touch people and move them in profound and meaningful ways. Who Is This Course For? This course is for anyone. Whether filmmaking is your passion, your hobby or just something you’ve always wanted to try, Smartphone Filmmaking will demystify the process of telling stories visually and help you translate your ideas into expressive and eloquent images. Final class will conclude with a screening for friends and family.
Comedy Improv for Adults

This children’s beginner class focuses on the fundamentals of Tap. Students will learn technique, rhythms, patterns, combinations and routines set to music. It also focuses on the development of coordination, concentration, listening skills and develops confidence in form and technique. The class schedule is offered in a three season commitment, fall classes focus on building technique and the winter and spring will be rehearsing choreography for the Spring recital. This is a performance class and Tap shoes are required for participation.

Fantasy & Theatrical Makeup

Learn the foundations of creating professional theatrical makeup just in time for Halloween! Students will master shadowing and highlighting techniques. Explore animals, pirates, scares, spooky characters and more. Each student will be provided with a basic theatrical makeup pallet, including brushes, and sponges, highlighter, and color.
Lighting Workshop

An introduction to the theoretical knowledge of how you look at lighting from a LD’s perspective going into a production, and the practical lighting technician’s hands-on knowledge of hanging/focusing/patching instruments for a specific show. (Wed Dec 4th is the final dress rehearsal for A Christmas Carol. The time is approximately 6:30-8:45 depending on the run time of the show)
Day 1: Part one, Role of LD, what a LD does and how they go about achieving lighting looks and the visual world of the story we’re telling on stage. Part two: Then hands-on learning in functionalities of lighting equipment.
Day 2: skill-building and application: Hands on learning: hanging, focusing, patching lighting equipment. Then actually creating the different cues and scenes of the play itself.
Day 3: Assess Attend final dress rehearsal of A Christmas Carol. Brief meeting before the rehearsal to review what we’ve learned so far and what to look for on the stage. Post-rehearsal, brief discussion of the lighting design and techniques used for this particular production.
