Dr. Edward Tick, author of The Practice of Dream Healing, Bringing Ancient Greek Mysteries into Modern Medicine, is known for his devotion to treating the invisible wounds of war. He highlights the holistic teachings of the Greek god of healing, Asklepios, whose healing practices dominated for 2000 years with temples from Asia Minor to Greece. The Asklepian tradition is the origin of medicine and psychotherapy in the Western world, whose most noted student, Hippocrates, is the founder of scientific medicine.
Thursday night, Dr. Tick offers a public lecture + slide show on Asklepian principles and practices of divine engagement in the healing process for physical, psychological, or spiritual discord. A staged reading follows
on philosopher-truthteller, Diogenes, first shared in Athens, Greece.
A Friday-Saturday intensive will be led by Dr. Tick on the study and replication of ancient holistic healing practices. B.E. Johnson, Expressive Arts Therapist, joins him in co-facilitating expressive arts, sacred theater,
dream work and ritual. Central to Asklepian healing is dream incubation, whereby the patient undergoes holistic rituals to receive a healing dream. Friday night, guided by facilitators, participants proceed into Asklepian dream incubation. On Saturday the group will share insights and continue their explorations. This retreat concludes with a Greek symposium of fellowship, food, the arts, and festivity.
